Grand Funk Railroad - Closer To Home - Shea Stadium 1971

http://www.petitiononline.com/GFRMDM/petition.html This is a clip from the legendary Shea Stadium Concert that broke The Beatles ticket sales record. A record that still stands today (38 years later) & will forever stand. I'm proud to say this video is in the permanent archives of Shea Stadium & The N.Y. Mets. Yes, this is the real deal, the Grand Funk Railroad we all love at the peak of their great career. Grand Funk Railroad is America's Band. This is a historic concert that folks still rave about. If you were there, feel lucky, because you were a part of history. This is considered by many to be one of the greatest concerts in the short history of "Hard Rock/Metal". Grand Funk Railroad was truly a "Performance Vehicle." It is amazing that this record has stood this long, a testament to how great & influincial this band was in the early 1970's. Check out the link below to see what Mark Farner has to say today about this historic performance. Grand Funk Railroad ruled the world from '69-'76 becoming the first band to earn 10 consecutive platinum albums! Some call it "Industrial Rock". You'll see no lazers or pyro here, just some of the greatest music ever performed live. Shea Stadium suffered structural damage after this show. In fact, the concert was almost stopped because Shea Stadium was oscillating from the excited crowd. Im your captain, Im your captain, Although Im feeling mighty sick. Ive been lost now, days uncounted, And its months since Ive seen home. Can you hear me, can you hear me, Or am I all alone. If you return me, to my home port, I will kiss you mother earth. Take me back now, take me back now, To the port of my birth. Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming, To take my ship away from me? Youd better think about it, I just cant live without it. So, please dont take my ship from me. Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I can feel the hand, of a stranger, And its tightening, around my throat. Heaven help me, heaven help me, Take this stranger from my boat. Im your captain, Im your captain, Although Im feeling mighty sick. Everybody, listen to me, And return me, my ship. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Ohhhh ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Im getting closer to my home ... Repeated to fade

The theremin is an electronic musical instrument that is played completely without physical contact. It was invented in 1919 by a Russian physicist named Lev Sergeyevich Termen. If you are new to the theremin, please learn about it. The wikipedia page is a good place to begin: http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin About the helmet: It was made of papier-mâché with a custom LED visor built in ... post production! using Softimage XSI and Adobe After Effects! Yes, it was a visual effect! 3D modeling, manual rotoscoping, and motion tracking/motion stabilization tricks were employed to pull this off. A LED array with animated text was projected on to a manually rotoscoped 3D visor, that was subsequently composited with the original footage using motion trackers in After Effects. The helmet itself took three days to make. I used 7 layers of card stock/normal stock paper strips in a special heavy mix paste recipe. The shape was built around a custom mold of shipping foam and gaffers tape. It was finished off with gunmetal grey paint. The visor was made of plastic cut from a microwave oven splash cover I found at Target for 5 dollars, laminated on both sides with Limo dark auto window tinting. I could see out, but the translucent plastic from the microwave splash cover along with the heavy tinting made it a little bit difficult. On the inside, the helmet was padded with custom cut felt blocks to fit my head size perfectly. The total weight was around 0.5 Kg (about 1 pound). This video was made for love. Please share it.
